Work Based Learning: Requirements
Academic Requirements
- A minimum of nine semester hours credit (9 SHC), three semester hours credit (3 SHC) of which must come from the core, must be completed within the appropriate program of study before a student can be eligible to enroll in work based learning experience.
- A student participating in a WBL course must be in good academic standing with the college and must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or better.
- If the eligibility requirements have been met, the student must be approved for WBL by their academic advisor, Dean, and the WBL Coordinator.
- Any exceptions to the academic requirements must be approved by the Vice President of Curriculum / Chief Academic Officer.
Participation Requirements
- The student must complete all paperwork and return it to the WBL office prior to meeting with the WBL coordinator for the first time.
- The student must attend all meetings and seminars required by the WBL program.
- The student must inform the WBL Faculty Coordinator of the acceptance of a WBL position, any changes in address, withdrawal from the program, or any problems that may occur.
- The student must remain in the program for the entire work experience period unless special arrangements are made with the WBL Coordinator and the employer.
- If working under the parallel plan, the student must be enrolled at JSCC for at least six (6) hours during the semester(s) you are doing WBL.
- The student must complete the Work Based Learning Education Agreement, MLOs, and the WBL Workbook and return to the WBL Coordinator by the required dates.
- If the student withdraws from the WBL program or if the student receives an I or D grade, the student must complete the time/wage report in the workbook for the hours spent on the job.
- Any exceptions to the participation requirements must be approved by the Vice President of Curriculum / Chief Academic Officer.
College Requirements
- Register for WBL course each semester
- Adhere to JSCC rules and remain in good standing
- Maintain required health/accident insurance
